The Sinus Blues

16:56 Oct 27 2008
Times Read: 602

This is for all of you that are like me and have constant problems with your sinuses and allergies.

Sinus Headache Bath Salts

2-3 cups Epsom salts (or salts of your choice)

1/3 cup peppermint

1/3 cup spearmint

40 drops peppermint eo

20 drops eucalyptus eo

Ground the mints in mortar and pestle, then sifted them through a mesh

kitchen strainer, and added them to the salts. If you still need to clear

out your sinuses, get a half cup of pepper/spearmint, put it in a bowl, and

toss in a cup or so hot water. Let it sit covered for a bit and then

carefully start breathing the steam.

Use about 1/4 - 1/3 cup of this mixture per bath. A decent amount of

essential oils would probably be 4 drops peppermint, 2 drops eucalyptus per

bath. Some

people may be more sensitive to the peppermint, so be sure they don't have an adverse reaction before using these salts.

The Journey Into The Animal World -- The Wisdom Of The Hawk

By Cheetahcry

The Hawks Wisdom contains these attributes:

Clear-sightedness

Being observant

Far-memory

Messages from spirit

Guardianship

Recalling past lives

Courage

Wisdom

Illumination

Seeing the larger picture

Creativity

Truth

Experience

Wise use of opportunities

Overcoming problems

There are several different species of hawks, which makes it hard to tell which is which. For example: marsh-hawks, forest hawks, sea-hawks, just to name a few. They are one of the most intriguing and mystical of the birds of prey. Hawks along with a few other's have very keen eyesight. The environment in which the Hawk is found in, will tell you how its energies can be used within your life. It's hunting ability, eyesight, powerful flights, and other behaviours are symbols to the human that seeks out the Hawk.

For the most part, all Hawks mate for life. Depending on the number of seasons that the mated birds spend raising their young, is the length of time that they stay together.

The Hawk has symbolic ties to the Kundalini, the seat of the primal life force or the base Chakra. Those that have the Hawk as a totem will be working with the Kundalini or base Chakra. The Hawk might NOT become your totem until the Kundalini has been activated. Or when you begin to move toward your soul purpose in life or when a childhood vision has been empowered and fulfilled.

Its ability to soar and glide on the wind currents, teaches us how to fly to great heights while keeping our feet planted on the ground. Both male and female care for their young thus bringing forth guardianship. The courage and overcoming problems are given to you to help with the attacks from something/someone that is larger than you.

Hawk's normally do not migrate. With this it is said that they will become a permanent totem and a very important part of your life. They cling to their home's for years and can live for up to 14 years.

To Tarot reader's the number "14" represents the Temperance card. This card can be used to develop astral projection and can help us to learn about higher expression's of psychism and about vision's.

To the Pueblo people the Hawk's feathers were used in healing ceremonies and for bringing down the rains and water's necessary for life. Specific reference to the Red Hawk.

To the Ojibwa, the Hawk is significant to leadership, deliberation, and foresight. "Hawk is akin to Mercury, the messenger of the god's. Hawk medicine teaches you to be observent...Life is sending you signals." (Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams & David Carson)

The Hawk could be your totem or animal guide. Place yourself within nature and see where the animals will lead you.

Until next time .........

The Wisdom Of The Turtle

The Turtle is known for these attributes:

Symbol of the Earth

Connection with the center

Navigation skills

Patience

Self-Boundaries

Associated with the Feminine

Power to heal female diseases

Respecting the boundaries of others

Developing new ideas

Physically protecting oneself

Self reliance

Tenacity

Non violent defense

Turtles are one of the oldest living vertebrate animals today. Unlike the tortoise the Turtle lives on the land and the water.

A great deal of myth surrounds the turtle. From the Far East we are told that the turtle's Shell is the symbol of the heavens and that the square underside is the symbol for the Earth. The magic that the turtle holds with in itself is said to be able to unite the heaven and the earth together in your life. From Japan we are told of the "Tale of Urashima". About a young man that stops some boys from picking on a turtle. He chases the boys away and helps the turtle to the water. The turtle however, does not swim away, he chooses to stay and say thank you for helping. For the young man's reward the turtle rides the young man on his back to the King of the Ocean. The King gives the young man a bride (a water sprite). Turtles are shore creature's but use the land and the water.

All shore areas are considered door ways to the Faerie Realm, making them the keeper of the doors. Because of this, turtles were often considered as sign from the Faerie Realm.

From Nigeria we are told that the Turtle is the symbol of the female sex organs and sexuality. The Native American's believed that turtles were associated with the Lunar Cycle of the moon, menstruation, and the power of the female energies. To most, the turtle is the symbol of the primal mother.

Its long life span contributes to the longevity that they are associated with. Turtle's do not move fast as we all know, its almost as if they know that they have all the time in the world to get where they are going.

Turtle totems hold the mystery of awakening the senses on both physical and spiritual levels. They stimulate hearing and clairaudience, help with vision and clairvoyance, and heighten the sense of smell. They remind us that the way to heaven is through the earth and that Mother Earth is all that we need to survive.

THE STONES----AGATE

Folk Names: Red Agate, Blood Agate

Energy: Various (see below)

Planet: Mercury

Element: Various

Deity: Various (see below)

Powers: Strength, Courage, Longevity, Gardening, Love, Healing, Protection

Magical Uses:

In general, the agate is utilized in spells and magical rituals involving

strength, bravery, longevity and so on.

Worn on the arm or carried while guarding, the agate increases your plants' fertility and ensures a bountiful crop or healthy flowers. Moss agate (see below) was thought to be the best suited for this. Charged agates can be 'planted' in the garden to promote abundance, and small agates hung on trees increase their yield.

In ancient Rome an agate worn in a ring on the hand or bound to the left arm ensured the favor of the vegetative deities, who cause the Earth to be fruitful.

A stone often utilized in love spells, agate is also worn to avoid envious

thoughts and to remove spite; in other words, to make its wearer amiable and agreeable. Spite has no place in the search for love.

It is also worn as a truth amulet, to ensure that your words are pure and

also to ensure favors from powerful persons.

Agate jewelry is given to children to be worn as protective amulets. Agate is thought to be particularly useful in preventing children from falling and is also worn by adults to prevent stumbling.

An agate held in the mouth relives thirst. It was once used to reduce fevers by applying it to the forehead. Held in the hand the agate calms and refreshes the body and helps it heal minor health problems.

Agates were popular talismans in the Middle East to ensure the healthy state of the blood. In ancient Britain they were worn to guard against skin diseases. Triangular-shaped agates were used in Syria to avert intestinal problems.

In ceremonial magic, agates were engraves with serpents or men riding on

snakes. Worn as an amulet this magical jewel prevented snake, scorpion and insect bites and stings.

The agate is sometimes used in protective spells and rituals and was once

thought to be a sovereign guard against sorcery, demons and fiendish

possession.

In Asia, agates were used much as quartz crystal is used today. To ascertain future trends the scyer gazed at the markings on the stone, allowing the deep mind to project its psychic impulses to the conscious mind.

The numerous types of agate-vaguely distinguishable by color or markings-are used in various types of magic. Though any type of agate may be worn for the above uses, these particular stones have traditional energies. Here's a list of some of the major ones and their magical attributions:

Banded Agate: (Energy: Projective, Element: Fire) Protection, Restores bodily energy and eases stressful situations.

Black Agate: (Energy: Projective, Element: Fire) Another protective stone. Wear for courage and successful competitions.

Black and White Agate: (Energy: Receptive, Element: Earth) Worn as an amulet, this stone guards against physical dangers.

Blue lace Agate: Energy: Receptive, Element: Water) Wear or carry for peace and happiness. Place in your hand to de-stress. Lay one on your desk or other workstation and gaze at it when in stressful situations. In the home, a blue lace agate surrounded with flaming, light blue candles calms the psychic atmospheres and reduces household or family quarrels.

Brown or Tawny Agate: Energy: Projective, Element: Fire) Once worn by

warriors for victory in battle, the brown agate is used today for success in any undertaking. It was prized in Italy and Persia as a guard against the evil eye. It's also a wealth talisman.

Green Agate: (Energy: Receptive, Element: Earth) Worn to improve the health of the eyes. In the past, a woman who drank the water a green agate ring was washed in was magically guarded against sterility.

Moss Agate: (Energy: Receptive, Element: Earth) Due to its curious markings, which suggest moss or trees, the moss agate is the especial gardener talisman. It is worn to relive a stiff neck, to lend energy to the depleted, and for healing pourpses. It is also used in spells involving riches, happiness and long life. Wear this stone to make new friends and to discover "treasure".

Red Agate: Energy Projective, Element: Fire) Also known as "Blood Agate", this stone was worn in ancient Rome to guard against insect bites, to heal the blood, and to promote calm and peace.

Aromatherapy Herbal Eye Pillows

21:36 Oct 04 2008
Times Read: 644

A very soothing and relaxing way to treat your tired or sore eyes to a break. :-)

Materials:

Silk in 4 colors (aqua, green, lavender, tan)

3/4" self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape cut into 4" pieces Lightweight

fusible webbing Iron-on transfer paper for inkjet printers 4 buttons 2

cups flaxseed 1/2 cup each dried peppermint, rosemary, lavender and

eucalyptus Sewing machine Scissors Pinking shears Pins Thread

Print these four words on the iron-on transfer paper, following

instructions from the manufacturer. (Words need to be flipped to be a

mirror image so they will come out straight when ironed on.) The four

words are refresh, dream, soothe and energize.

Directions:

Cut a strip of fabric 4-1/4" x 24" from each piece of silk.

Cut out each word from the transfer paper, allowing some space around

the word. Place it horizontally 3-1/2" to 4" from the end of a strip of

fabric and iron it onto the fabric, following the instructions on the

transfer paper. The words and colors should be paired as follows:

Refresh -- aqua Dream -- green Soothe -- lavender Energize -- tan.

Cut 4 pieces fusible webbing 2-1/2" x 4-1/2".

Fuse the narrow strip of fusible webbing to the wrong side of one end of

a piece of silk. Fold right side over 3/4" and press. Attach the stiff

half of a piece of hook-and-loop tape to the front side of this silk.

(The tape is stiff and the webbing acts as a reinforcement.)

Fuse the wider strip of fusible webbing to the other end of the silk,

1/2" from the end. Turn the 1/2" edging over the webbing and press. Fold

the fused end back over the silk and pin, with right sides together.

Mark the center of the folded fabric and sew from the corners, where the

fabric is folded over, to the center point. Cut away the outside

triangles. When you turn the fabric right side out, you have a pointed

end. This is where you will sew a buttonhole. Stick the soft side of the

hook-and-loop tape just below the folded, pointed end of the fabric, on

the wrong side. Fold the strip of silk in half, right sides together,

and line up the two halves of the hook-and-loop tape so they match. Sew

down the two sides from the tape end to the fold. Turn right side out.

Mark and sew on the button. Fill with 1/2 cup flaxseed (for weight) and

1 cup of dried herbs, as

follows:

Aqua -- peppermint

Green -- rosemary

Lavender -- lavender blossoms

Tan -- eucalyptus.

Close the hook-and-loop tape firmly.

Now it's time to place a pillow over your eyes, and refresh, dream,

soothe or energize yourself.

Tip:

For extra comfort, you can place the pillow in the freezer briefly to

cool yourself, or microwave it for a warm experience.

Products:

Iron-on transfer paper is available from office-supply stores. Herbs can

be bought at grocery or health-food stores. Everything else is at your

local fabric store.
